ABS boards

ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is an amorphous plastic with a density of 1.05 g/m3 used in the manufacture of boards which are highly impact-resistant in positive and negative temperatures. It exhibits high hardness, flexibility, low weight and resistance to scratching. ABS is one of a few plastics which can be coated with metals by galvanizing.

Types of ABS boards:

  • ABS/PMMA – ABS co-extruded with acrylate (PMMA)
  • ABS/TPU – ABS co-extruded with thermoplastic polyurethane
  • ABS/ASA – ABS co-extruded with the ASA copolymer

Processing

  • Heat forming
  • Hot bending
  • Cementing
  • Die cutting
  • Guillotine cutting, laser cutting, cutting with wood and metal cutters
  • Drilling
  • Milling
  • The boards can be offset and screen printed

Advantages

  • Low weight
  • Good insulation properties
  • Excellent rigidity
  • High impact strength
  • Ease of heat forming
  • Ease of machining
  • Good chemical resistance
